What a clean and recoat is, and when your floor needs one
A clean and recoat is a lighter option than full refinishing. Generally the floor gets a deep clean, the existing finish is lightly abraded so a new coat can bond, and then a fresh coat of finish goes on top. The wood itself isn't sanded down, so the color you have now stays the same.
It works best when the wear is in the finish, not the wood. Common signs are a dull or cloudy look in high-traffic areas, light surface scuffs, and fine scratches that haven't gone through to the wood.
If the finish has worn through and the wood looks gray or bare, or the scratches and dents go into the wood, a recoat usually won't fix it. The same goes for floors that have been waxed or treated with some polish products, because new finish may not bond to them. For floors like that in McAlisterville and the area around it, we also do full hardwood floor refinishing, repair, and staining.
How we do a clean and recoat
We respect your home and your time. We move the appliances and furniture, and take up toilets and trim when needed, so you don't have to lift a finger.
We use a professional vacuum system that captures up to 99% of the dust, so your home stays clean and livable while we work.
We work with both water-based and oil-based finishes, and we choose the finish to suit your style, your needs, and the character of your home.
What a clean and recoat costs

Questions we hear
What's the difference between a clean and recoat and refinishing?
A clean and recoat puts a fresh coat of finish over the finish you already have, without sanding to bare wood. Full refinishing sands the floor down to raw wood and refinishes it from scratch. A recoat is for wear in the finish, and refinishing is for damage that goes into the wood.
Will a clean and recoat get rid of deep scratches?
Usually not. A recoat helps with dullness and light surface scuffs. Scratches, dents, or gray worn spots that go into the wood generally need sanding and refinishing or a repair.
Can I change my floor color with a clean and recoat?
No. The wood isn't sanded, so stain can't get into it. If you want a different color, the floor needs to be sanded and stained.
Do I have to move my furniture first?
No. We move the appliances and furniture, and take up toilets and trim when needed.
