Wood floors in Hershey's older homes
Milton Hershey started building Hershey as a planned town in the early 1900s, and many of the homes near the center of town date from those years. Houses from that period were commonly built with solid wood floors. Some of those floors are still in use, and some are hidden under carpet or years of worn finish.
If you have an older floor like that, we offer hardwood floor refinishing, floor staining and hardwood floor repair. When we repair a section or extend an existing floor, we match the color and finish so the transition looks natural. We take pride in blending old with new.
Newer homes and lighter refreshes
Hershey isn't only older houses. Derry Township also has newer neighborhoods, and their floors may just need freshening up instead of a full sanding. For those floors we offer clean and recoat, where a new coat of finish goes on without sanding the wood down to bare.
We also do hardwood floor installation, and we've started installing LVP flooring too. If you're adding rooms or replacing flooring, either one is an option.
Central Pennsylvania weather and wood
Summers around Hershey are humid, and in winter the heat runs and the air indoors gets dry. Wood takes on moisture in summer and gives it up in winter, so it's normal to see thin gaps between boards in the cold months that close up again when the weather warms.
Those gaps are just how solid wood behaves here. Worn finish, gray spots and damaged boards are different, and those are what refinishing, staining and repair are for.
What it's like having the work done
We use a professional vacuum system that captures up to 99% of the dust, so your home stays clean and livable while we work.
We move the appliances and furniture, and take up toilets and trim when needed, so you don't have to lift a finger. We work with both water-based and oil-based finishes, chosen for your style, your needs and the character of your home. Staircase refinishing is on our list of services as well.
